Chapter 5 Grades

A few days later, Taylor brought the trains and train tracks she made to her parents. The reaction she got was different than she expected.

Taylor: “Mom, Dad look what I made for Bryant!”

Taylor’s mom: “That’s amazing but report cards came in and they’re not very good. You need to work on your grades and not make dumb things like that!”

Taylor: “The things I make are not dumb. I’m going to my room. Goodbye!”

Taylor’s mom: “Taylor come back!”

The next couple days Taylor did not visit Bryant or build anything. Then one day Mrs. Cole asked Taylor, “Why don’t you visit Bryant anymore Taylor?”

“Well my parents say; I need to study more. So they don’t want me to visit Bryant or build anything.” Taylor was looking frustrated.

Mrs. Cole: “Well that doesn’t seem fair does it? Taylor follow me!

Taylor: “OK but where are we going?”

Mrs. Cole: “Somewhere.”

Mrs. Cole took Taylor’s hand and strutted down the hallway.

Chapter 4 Paint

“Ughh! I just can’t figure out what to paint. These trains and train tracks won’t paint themselves!”

Taylor had a bunch of paint next to her and couldn’t figure out what to paint on the trains and train tracks until Bryant picked up a paintbrush dipped on some paint and started painting the train tracks.

“No you CAN’T do that Bryant! Stop!” Bryant looked up at Taylor and went back to painting. Taylor didn’t say a word.

Fifteen minutes later, Bryant stepped away from his creation.

“It’s beautiful Bryant! How did you do it?” Taylor was amazed by Bryant’s artwork.

Taylor joined in painting with Bryant and together they made the most beautiful trains and train tracks ever.

Mrs. Cole walked in and her Jaw dropped.

Chapter 3 Trains and Train Tracks

A couple days later after Taylor finished the books, she learned more about A.S. and a little more about how Bryant communicates.

Taylor: “Hey Mrs. Cole, I was wondering if you have any experience building models?”

Mrs. Cole: “Well Taylor, I do you like to build small things, yes.”

Taylor: “Do you think that I could build a mini toy for Bryant.”

Mrs. Cole: “Of course you can!

Taylor: “Okay, thank you Mrs. Cole see you later!”

Mrs. Cole: “By Taylor!”

The next day, Taylor started making some trains and tracks while Bryant watched her work on it.

“Try stacking these blocks Bryant!”, exclaimed Taylor.

Bryant took the blocks and stacked them up exactly like Taylor.

“Nice job Bryant you did amazing!”

Taylor kept on teaching Bryant new things every day until one day…

Chapter 2 Asperger Syndrome

“Hello Mrs. Cole what are you, Taylor and Bryant doing here?” Calls Mr. Pateyoka our school librarian. Mrs. Cole answers, “Well Taylor had a great question about Bryant’s condition and books on A.S., I mean to say Asperger Syndrome.”

Mr. Pateyoka gives me a surprised look, then simply says, “Follow me Taylor.” I follow Mr. Pateyoka into a small back room of the library.

“Taylor this is a place where all the unwanted books go. You might be wondering why they are here, well it just means no one checked them out in a long time so I just thought why take up so much room when I can just put them right here.” Exclaimed Mr. Pateyoka. “Take a look Taylor!”

I take a look around and found a couple books and thanked Mr. Pateyoka and went back to Mrs. Cole’s room.

Chapter 1 Introduction

Bryant

“Mrs. Cole May I see Bryant?” I ask shyly. “Oh, hi Taylor I was not expecting you in here today, but sure you can see Bryant.” Mrs. Cole replies and goes to get Bryant. I wait for a while and Mrs. Cole is back. “ why are you here today Taylor?” Mrs. Cole asks. I reply, “Well I wanted to ask you about Bryant’s condition.” I say shyly.

Mrs. Cole gives me a weird look, “come sit at the table with me.” She says while Bryant is saying well I don’t know what he was saying it was mostly just jumbled words you could not understand. Me and Mrs. Cole sit at a small colorful table. She says, “What do you want to know about Bryant?”

I don’t want to say anything wrong so I simply say, “ why does he act the way he acts and why does he not know how to speak well?”. The second I said it I knew I said something wrong because whenever you say something weird or wrong the teachers have a special look they give you that says, “what did you just say?!?!?!” Witch is the exact look she gave me.

I could feel my face flush red. She said, “Well Bryant has something called A.S and before you ask what A.S stands for, it stands for Asperger syndrome.” I give her a look that says “What?!” She understands and says. “It is a form of autism but not as severe to the brain.” She realized I still don’t understand so she says, “Let’s take a visit to the library maybe we can find more information on A.S there than from an old woman like me.” she gives a little chuckle after that. I laugh a little to. Mrs. Cole, Bryant, and I all go to the library. CHNK! CHNK! The door screams on our way into the library.

A book of Autism

One night I was Sitting on my bed writing a book just like any other normal kid would do, and a random thought curled into my mind. It was a thought about two friends I know who are Autistic. Then all of a sudden it came to me, so many people in my school do not know what Autistic kids are going through and so many people misunderstand Autistic kids so I thought why not write a book about it.
